The Ducasse sur Seine restaurant was inaugurated at the end of September 2018. The elegant and modern 40-metre long boat with electric motor was specially designed by the naval architect Gérard Ronzatti for the famous Alain Ducasse. The interior design intended to express the art and creativity of the starred chef, giving guests a unique and exclusive experience.
Among the various partners, the talented designer/couturier duo Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman, who are entrusted with the creative direction of the works by TERENZI SRL, by virtue of the experience in the artistic working of metal and the relationship of esteem consolidated over the years.
Moored on the right bank of the river, right in front of the Tour Eiffel, the boat reveals all the potential that our company is able to express thanks to an ambitious project that has given an excellent result.
The inspiration is the river itself, the flow of water and the movement of the wave.
Terenzi has recreated waves and ripples of ever-changing billows. The ceiling of the two large rooms houses 3,200 three-dimensional metal sheets in various shades of gold and silver. A LED backlighting system, designed by Franck Franjou, inserted among the elements amplifies the effect of movement. The decoration, like the river, had to be light and easy to install, given its final location.
The preliminary studies, the industrialization, the prototyping and the final production led to the execution of a ceiling decoration with a "wave" motif in pre-anodized aluminum, which characterizes the restaurant in a unique way and to a concealed aesthetic false ceiling, through metallic support nets on which the creation has been applied.
In a first phase, the plan was developed and the two elliptical and symmetrical ceiling decoration areas were defined in the two dining rooms that open to the right and left of the transversal axis of the boat. The total area is approximately 60 m². The support net allowed a functional hooking to the ceiling and allowed an equally practical and safe anchoring of the waves to the meshes, through punctually studied fixing elements, not visible and quick to apply.
In the subsequent production phase, light sheet metal was used, 0.5 mm thick in two textures of silver, shiny and smoky, and a shade of shiny gold. The strips were obtained by cutting and shaping the metal sheets with "fibre laser" technology and modeled manually to achieve the desired shape.
For the fixing to the ceiling we proceeded manually, folding the union fins between the aluminum waves and the meshes of the net with a variable pitch which defined the characteristic pattern of the project (linear development of 1.26 m with 30mm pitch). The support nets with 30x30 mm electro-welded metal mesh and 5 mm round wire section were cut to size (format of 1,280 x 980 mm and 14 of 1,280 x 422 mm) and powder coated in matt black. This background remains invisible. Tie rods composed of threaded rod fasteners were then used; flanges and brackets were made internally with fiber laser technology.
