HISTORY

Alessandro Sarfatti's collaboration with ASTEP has highlighted an aspect that TERENZI SRL values internally: care and respect for the past, origins and lived experience.
Francisco Gomez Paz, designer of Candela, has thought of a portable light project that takes inspiration from Scandinavian oil lanterns, but the luminous object is only traditional in appearance. It is an absolutely contemporary reinterpretation of what was for a long time the only and indispensable tool to brighten up the long nights in Northern Europe.

FEATURES

Terenzi for ASTEP creates Candela, a low-consumption and therefore eco-sustainable atmosphere lamp. The idea is that of a flame that releases light and a LED that returns it.
We are talking about a multi-functional lamp that illuminates wirelessly and recharges smartphones via USB socket. TERENZI with this realization must make possible the Seebeck effect, at the basis of his conception: physically a thermoelectric reaction for which a difference in temperature is able to generate electricity.

THE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS

The flame comes from a wick soaked in bioethanol, an ecological fuel that does not produce smoke and is extracted from sugar-rich agricultural products; it is released in the upper part and feeds, after cooling the lower part, the LED lights: 2/3 W are sufficient for a similar type of source.
The thermal energy that is generated supplies a system of 24 LEDs, as well as recharging our devices, thanks to the special USB socket.
An important study was conducted internally in the preliminary phase to select the best materials that could guarantee optimal yields and qualities. We have developed an injection mold in order to obtain the component that supports and fixes the blown glass lampshade and the LED circuit.
Continuous checks are carried out along the production line and at the end of the assembly phase.
The 20 initial specimens were completed and assembled in record time to be immediately presented at international fairs and exhibitions. The first series has been produced since 2016.
